WHAT EXACTLY IS A RAW VEGAN/RAW FOODIST ANYWAY?
Raw foodism (or Rawism) is a lifestyle promoting the consumption of uncooked, unprocessed, and often organic foods as a large percentage of the diet.
Personal claims have been made following a raw vegan diet, including increases in strength, weight loss, more energy, clear skin, improved insulin tolerance, and more efficient digestive systems.
Alkaline Diet = Raw Veganism ?
More and more athletes, fitness models, martial artists, bodybuilders and MMA fighters like Randy Couture are coming to the realization that the alkaline diet is the best diet for maximum efficiency and results. One of the main reasons this is true is because of the constant build up of lactic acid being produced through intense training. Foods such as meats, dairies, refined products and table sugars all produce high amounts of acid, toxins and inflammation in the body especially when combined with intense training and exercise.
For the most part being on an alkaline diet has many similar traits to being Raw. Most of raw vegan food is alkalizing and does create the same benefits as an alkaline diet. The most harmful foods to the body that are highly acidic come from refined food and red meat. Highly acidic foods can cause many different types of deficiencies and problems to the body when consumed in large amounts.
A lot of athletes and bodybuilders become victim of the protein myth that requires you to consume unrealistic and harmful amounts of meats in the pursuit of getting enough protein. This is definitely a very acidic diet and is more harmful than helpful. Animal Protein needs to be broken
down and re-assimilated before it can be used as a building block for building muscle. High amounts of animal protein do not get absorbed by the body as easily as most people think. We also must keep in mind that the meats that we are consuming today are not the same meats that past generations grew up on in the past. Most people aren’t eating organic and end up consuming preservatives, toxic chemicals and hormones every time they consume meat. All this slows down performance and speeds up aging. The absorption rate with animal protein is very low and requires a lot of energy from the body. A Raw vegan plant based protein like hemp, flax, goji, bee pollen, spirulina or SunWarrior Protein which is a bio-fermented raw protein hasve much higher absorption rates than any meat proteins. Most do not realize the amount of energy required to convert animal protein to human protein. The goal is to get a good absorption rate without the waste, bad cholesterol, worms and hard metals. It has been shown that worms come mostly from heavy meat consumption and non kosher dairy products. According to Dr. Hulda Clark (Parasite specialist, Ph.D, N.D) minimizing or avoiding red meat consumption will not only keep worms and infectious parasites from entering the body but can also decrease the chances of developing many types of cancers.
The Alkaline Diet similar to a Raw Vegan diet helps balance the body to a natural state allowing it to become more efficient in digestion, absorption, assimilation and speeds up recovery time for athletes after an intense workout. Recovery time is key to building muscle and getting in shape. The alkaline diet also helps boost stamina and endurance this is another key reason why MMA fighters like Randy Couture implement it in their diets for training and fighting. It also helps boost the immune system while removing the environment for colds and flus. I personally use this as leverage for my training. It helps me recover faster from my workouts and allows me to keep my intensity high.
Some Alkaline/Raw Foods: Figs, dates, olives, root vegetables, dark green leaf veggies (kale, spinach, dandelion, arugula), avocados, cucumber, grapes, lemons, spirulina, seaweed, bee pollen, sprouts.
