Fitness and superfoods is the one of the most powerfull combinations!

Some questions around whether or not superfoods are required on a raw plant based diet?

It is assumed by many who have tried to transition into eating an exclusive Raw plant based diet that the a diet that includes only fruits and vegetables are all that is needed. I do not share this opinion and would not want to keep out so many nutrient dense foods  that they call superfoods and some of the medicinal properties that come with certain herbs out of my eating lifestyle. The base of what you eat should be fresh fruits and vegetables however, these are what complete the remaining nutrient requirements that your body needs for building and overall wellness. There are many factors when transitioning and eating a raw plant based diet to consider and it would be more advantageous to include some of these types of foods in my opinion to cover all bases. It is about eating the most complete alternative to a heavy refined and meat based diet.

Below are some superfoods and Superherbs that I consider having interesting profiles that I like to include in my diet. They also assist in building quality muscle driven by clean fuel. There are thousands more so keep in mind this is where true abundance of food choice is found.

KOREAN RED GINSENG

Korean Ginseng is any one of eleven distinct species of slow-growing perennial plants with fleshy roots, belonging to the Panax genus family. It grows in the northern hemisphere in eastern Asia mostly northern China, Korea, and eastern Siberia, typically in cooler climates.Although it grows in other countries as well, it is widely cultivated in Korea where the climate and soil produce the world’s finest. The main active ingredients of Korean ginseng are ginsenosides. These steroid-like phytochemicals have adaptogenic properties, which give ginseng property to counter the effects of stress. Ginsenosides increase protein synthesis and activity of neurotransmitters in the brain. Ginseng has also been known to stimulate the formation of blood vessel and improves blood circulation in the brain and can improve memory.

Korean ginseng contains steroids such as panaxtriol. The steroids are remarkably similar in structure to anabolic steroids found naturally in our body. This makes Korean ginseng ideal for athletes and body builders looking for a natural alternative to anabolic steroid. Korean ginseng is also used by women for treatment of post menopausal symptoms. The ginseng root has been used for 7000 years making it the longest used herb in Chinese medicine.

Raw cacao has the highest score on the orac scale above goji berries, acai berries, red wine, blueberries you name it. It is known as the most powerful antioxidant on the planet. Key elements

Raw cacao holds key elements that help serotonin and other neurotransmitters such as dopamine and anandamide circulate longer in the brain. These neurotransmitters are chemicals that the body releases when feeling great. The ananadamine in cacao helps the anandamine in the body circulate longer and contributes to improved moods.

Raw cacao is also an energy source. It holds theobromine that stimulates the central nervous system, relaxes smooth muscles and dilates blood vessels. Theobromine has about a quarter of the stimulating power of caffeine only without the high and low. It is a more stable way of adding energy when feeling tired than a coffee full of destructive components like refined sugars and additives.

There are so many advantages to eating raw cacao. It is a great superfood for anyone who is looking to add a food into their diet or training shakes that will help amp up their health and performance.
