Although my dumbbell ab workouts differ, a common factor of each is a the ‘crunching’ motion”, where the dumbbell weight are above the body and the crunching is performed with the focus of primarily using the strength of the abdominal muscles. The ab muscles with the use of dumbbells are contracted to lift the weight upward through the bending of the shoulder blades and pelvis. When training abs all your attention should be focused on feeling the burn in your upper, mid, lower and side abdominal muscles. It is important to always breathe in a rhythm and consistency. Breathing for abs is extremely important. To connect yourself with your ab muscles breathing is especially crucial. Each repetition to any ab workout must be done inhaling on the way down and exhaling when you force the crunch on the way up. I do believe in high repetition training for ab muscles. however I do want to stress that each crunch should be a full crunch and help for a at least half a second to squeeze and shape that six pack!
