Although my dumbbell shoulder workouts differ, a common factor of each is a the ‘pushing’ motion where the dumbbell weight is moved through a pressing or pushing with the focus of primarily using the strength of the deltoid muscles. The variation of shoulder exercises using dumbbells are all contracted to push or squeeze the weight upward through the press using the weights, to a point where you feel the pump or burning at its peak in your shoulders . Its important to stay in the proper range of motion when performing any dumbbell press or lateral movements. It is also important to always breathe in a rhythm and consistency. When you train your body always practice correct form and good control especially when lifting heavy weight above your head. The shoulders are the first joint to be injured do to the fact that it has so much mobility. It is the joint that is the most vulnerable and is a common place for injury. Make sure that all shoulder exercises are done with proper control using dumbbells. Do not over obsess with weight! Each repetition to any shoulder workout should be done inhaling on the way down when releasing and exhaling when you force on the way up when pressing. This contraction and extension together constitute a single repetition of any shoulder workout.
